From gender inequality, sexual violence, and even the wage gap, Bustle’s (magazine for women, by women) new NSFW Series takes you behind the scene of the stigma of being a woman in today’s world. Each episode focuses on issues affecting women and the first episode, women share what it’s like living on the streets and dealing with menstruation.
“Tampons and Pads are not a luxury…..they’re a necessity” With limited or no access to sanitary /hygiene products, homeless women struggle between buying tampons or pads and going without food; often dealing with discomfort, fear of infections, and more. Movements like Menstruation Matters and advocates for women’s hygiene and health issues are trying to break the stigma of menstruation; this June, the New York Council even passed a bill that would require the state to provide an estimated 2 million tampons and 3.5 million pads each year, just to homeless shelters. Check out the first episode of Bustle’s NSFW, “Homelessness + Periods.
*You can donate tampons and pads, as well as other sanitary products to your local women shelter*
